A Message from the President

Letter from the President , EDCC Board of Directors

Dear friends,

In our 37th year in operation, Easton Day Care Center, Inc. continues to face, head on, the challenges and opportunities created by these uncertain times. Our activities of the past year reflect our continued commitment to our mission - To provide quality, affordable, educationally based, licensed, NAEYC accredited childcare to the children and families we serve. Like all of us, we have had to adapt to and plan for the demands of the times in which we live. Fortunately, as the theme of this year’s Report to Friends reflects, we have partners, including concerned citizens and organizations, to help us meet our Mission. With the help of partners like you, we accomplished many things, and are poised for the new challenges ahead:

Making Ends Meet in the Face of Financial Constraints

Staff development. Classroom evaluation. Program enrichment. Tuition assistance for working families that need it. All of these components of quality childcare represent financial challenges for Easton Day Care. We work to meet these challenges through every source available to us. This past year, in addition to our annual giving campaign, we sought and secured State and privately funded grants, and used those funds prudently to address both present and future program and training needs.

The successful efforts of our staff have been rewarded by the State of Maryland’s recently implemented "tiered reimbursement" program for families covered under "Purchase of Care" vouchers, rewarding childcare providers who attain specified educational levels among its staff. Easton Day Care Center was the first childcare provider on the Eastern Shore to earn higher levels of reimbursement at our Pre-School Site, with other sites on track to attain the same objective.

It Takes A Community!

Please take a moment to think about the value we provide, as neighbors and partners in the community, in making our communities a better place to live, to work, and to operate a business. Then give as generously as you are able. With the help of individuals, organizations, and businesses in the area, we can continue to provide and build upon the depth and breadth of childcare services on which our communities have come to depend. We hope we can count on you, and on all of our community partners, to make affordable, quality childcare available to families at all of our sites, which include Easton, St. Michaels, Trappe, and Cordova.

Thank you for your support!
